We have changed to a combination of in-person and online Zoom meetings, depending on the monthly activities. Online meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 PM. The in-person meetings are usually held during car shows or club events on the weekends so please check the events calendar. Cactus Corvair Club Meeting February 3, 2026 Secretary's Report by Nancy P.
A meeting of the Cactus Corvair Club was called to order at 7:01 P.M. on Tuesday, February 6, 2026 via Zoom by club president Dave W. Eleven members were in attendance.
Agenda:
• We had three new members join in January.
• Motion to accept last month's minutes: Motion: Chris S., Second: Jim W.; all accepted.
• Our treasury balance currently stands at $9234.39. Was $9396.39 last month; $253 went out, which was $250 for the caterer for our January “Tech Session Live!” and a $3 bank fee. $91 came in; $61 from the 50/50 raffle at the “Tech Session Live!” and 3 new members' dues. We are also still holding money for the Fan Belt Toss dispute, but that is not part of the above balance.
• The Member Roster was sent out. Contact Dave W. if you need any corrections.
• Events: Concours in the Hills is Feb. 14. Meet at the Wendy's on Shea at 6:45 A.M. to caravan in together and park together.
• Chester's Melrose Street Fair and Car Show on Saturday February 28 at 5 P.M.
• Our Annual Corvair Cruise-In will be at Mixteca in Glendale on March 7 from 2-6 P.M. Motion to donate $100 to a Nancy Perry charity: Nancy, Second: Linda. All were in favor.
• Tempe American Legion Post #2 is having a “Cars for a Cause” car show February 21 at 9 A.M. to 2 P.M.
• Al F. may host a Tech Session on April 11.
• Dave W. is thinking about a Cinco de Mayo event on May 5.
• Dave W. says mechanical fuel pumps are back in stock at Clark's ($109).
• A 21-Window VW Van was bought by a club member at Barrett-Jackson.
• Chris S. thanked Dave W. for helping him with a carburetor problem.
• Bob C. thanked Tom S. for hosting the January “Tech Session Live!”. It was a big success.
Tech Talk:
• Dave W. got a car for free that hasn't run for 30 years. It is currently at Miner's house. He is not sure what he's going to do with it yet.
• Dave W. had a brake drum that wouldn't come off the hub. He rigged up a 76mm carbide-tip hole saw and used it to rub down the high spot.
• Dave W. said the Greenbriar locked up on him on the highway. Would go backwards but not forwards. He got a ride home and returned with a trailer to get it home. Possible transaxle bearing issue?
• On 67-69 models with tandem master cylinders, the little block on the side is not a proportioning valve as most people think. It merely lights up a light on the dashboard when one side of the tandem system is failing. Of course, you'll feel it in the brake pedal as well.
• Tom S. bought a huge load of Corvair parts for $600. He is looking for some 8 ft. high shelving to have somewhere to put it all.

We had quite a few expenses in November and December due to our Fall Picnic, the Toys for Tots donation, renewal of our Zoom subscription, etc. We are also still holding money for the Fan Belt Toss dispute, but that is not part of the above balance.
- The Carefree Orphans and Oddities show is Jan. 11 from 7 A.M. to 11 P.M. on Easy Street in the Town Center. No registration, no fees, just show up!
- Our Annual Corvair Cruise-In will be at Mixteca on March 7 from 2-6 P.M.
- Dave W. was contacted by someone in Prescott who is helping an elderly man clean out his property to prepare for sale. There are many Corvairs on the property, most in very bad condition, but if anyone is interested they will be free or very cheap.
- Someone in Fountain Hills has a “Puma” (Brazilian) with a Corvair drive train. He was looking for some help from the club to get it running after sitting for 7 years. The car is a '76 or '77.
- Thirty-nine people have responded to the Roster project inquiries.
Tech Talk:
- Oil filter bolt, “Adaptabolt”, allows oil pressure gauge attachment. Dave W. had made some and they sold out earlier this year. He will be making another run of them.
- A member had a window fall out into the door. Dave W. cut a door down to show how it works. It's basically a press-fit in rubber. The rubber can be replaced with RTV or “Window Weld”, and it's much easier than replacing the rubber.
- Dave W. said he wasn't getting spark in Greenbriar #3. Grass had grown up inside the distributor cap! He cleaned it out; all better.
- While doing some carb work, Dave W. saw that the Venturi cluster holes can be different sizes. This could be a source of leaks because a larger hole won't seal well.
- Needle on an offset will cause a leak, too. Dave W. recommends setting the lower float drop to half what is recommended.
- Dave W. is preparing for our “Tech Session Live!” On Jan. 17. He has a test stand loaded onto a trailer ready to go. He is also bringing an e-brake cable for Bob C.'s car.
- Bob C. now has a non-functioning speedometer. John H. said that the plastic gear in the speedometer head is prone to stripping out. Calibration is critical after replacement and must be done according to tire diameter.
- Cotton Picker Lube is no longer available at Tractor Supply. Dave W. said you can still find it at Southwest Products, Inc. Corn Head Grease is the same thing and can be used as a replacement.

- Our Treasurer's Report shows our balance currently at $9396.39. We had a lot of expenses in November and December due to our club picnic, the Toys for Tots donation, Zoom annual renewal, etc. We are also still holding the money in dispute from the Fanbelt Toss, but that is not part of the above balance.
- The Orphans and Oddities show is Sunday, Jan. 11 on Easy Street in Carefree Town Center from 7 A.M. to 11 P.M. No registration, no entry fee, just show up!
- We are planning our Annual Corvair Cruise-In for March 7 from 2-6 P.M. at Mixteca.
- Dave W. was contacted by someone in Prescott who is helping an elderly neighbor clean out his property to prepare for sale. He has several Corvairs; most are not salvageable, but they will be free or very cheap if anyone is interested.
- Some of Dave W's planned Tech Talk topics for today involve offset needle valves, “Adaptabolts”, oil pressure temperature sensors, what works when your window falls down into the door, and Venturi cluster diameters causing leaks.
- Upcoming shows include the Fountain Hills “Concours in the Hills” on Feb. 14 and the Melrose Street Fair on Feb. 28.

A meeting of the Cactus Corvair Club was called to order at 7:03 P.M. Via Zoom on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025 by Club President Dave W. Thirteen members were in attendance.
Old Business
• We approved Meeting Minutes from our November meeting. Motion: Chris S., Second: Bob C.
• Our treasury now has $9979.76. We had $518 in income and no expenses. We are still holding $2878 in escrow as a 3rd party for the Fan Belt Toss dispute.
New Business:
• There is a Toy Drive at the Martin Auto Museum in Glendale Saturday December 6th from 9-2. Bring one unwrapped toy per person to enter the show and museum. At 2 P.M. the club will caravan to Mixteca for the weekly cruise-in. It's conveniently about 5 miles away from the Martin Auto Museum. The cruise-in runs from 2-6.
• The club voted unanimously to approve $100 to buy extra toys for the Toy Drive at the Martin Museum. Cathy W. will shop and she and Dave W. will bring them to the Toy Drive. Motion: Dave W., Second, Chris S.
• There won't be a Christmas party this year, but we are thinking about a Tortilla Flat run in January. Watch Facebook for announcements.
• Looking ahead, on Sunday, January 11th, 2026, there is an “Orphans and Oddballs Show” in Cave Creek to which our club is invited. There is no registration for this show, just show up.
• There is an automatic transmission for sale and Chris S. may be interested.
• There is a non-running '65 for sale in east Mesa. If anyone is interested, Dave W. can get details.

• Dave W. bought a box of WIX 51038 filters for cheap.
• Dave W. placed a nutsert in the engine cover of his FC. He had reconditioned the engine cover and used EPDM furniture corner protectors, cut to fit. No fumes, less noise.
• Garrett Z. said that Kathy M. has fuel pump issues. And she also needs a clutch.
• Bob C. has emergency brake problems. Dave W. said we might bring that to our next “Tech Session Live!”.
• Darin has a leaking steering box. Dave W. advised using harrow grease from John Deere; Al F. said Cotton Picker Spindle grease works well too.
• Stan is looking for non-ethanol fuel. He was advised to find racing fuel around the valley.
• Al F. asked about rocker arm adjustment. Dave W. says to do it when the engine is cold; Gary says do it when the engine is hot. Cork/rubber composite gaskets are preferred.

Old Business
- We approved Meeting Minutes from our October meeting. Motion: Linda, second: Chris S.
- Our treasury now has $9461.76. Took in two new members' dues, and paid our $3 bank fee.
- Our club did well at the Great Western Fan Belt Toss. Kristin won the Fan Belt toss and club members took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the Valve Cover Race. We spent $100 on a Gift Basket and another $100 on prizes for the Valve Cover Race. However, we won $350 back, so we actually made money at the event. Everybody liked the new venue and having all events on the property.
- It's Membership Renewal time. We are going to charge new members $10 to join and existing members will remain free in the upcoming year as long as they participate in at least one event or meeting.
New Business:
- We reviewed the upcoming picnic at Usery Regional Park on November 16, from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. Lunch will be served at noon. The caterer has viewed the venue and is all set. Dave W. will put up his A-frame signs to help direct people to the site. Bring cash for the 50/50 raffle and $7 park entry fee.
- It appears that we are not having a Christmas Party this year, but we will plan an early January New Year Cruise.
- There are a few Corvairs for sale locally the club should know about. They are listed on Corvairs.org.
- Corvanatics is trying to recruit John H. to be a Western Regional Director. He does not know if he wants to do it, as the club is not very active and he doesn't need the aggravation. They do not have a presence west of the Mississippi, it seems. Dave W. commented that they were at the national convention but not at the Fan Belt Toss.
Tech Talk:
- Dave W. rigged up a simple oil temperature sensor using an RF BBQ temp sensor with the sensor held against the oil filter with a hose clamp. It is simple and fairly accurate; he says it's within a couple of degrees of actual temperature.
- Dave W. is also trying out some suspension bushings he created on his 3D printer out of TPU.
- Al has gapless ring problems and has to re-ring.
- Scott talked about progress on his car.
- Darin is working on his fuel pump.
- Nancy's turn signals are all messed up and she is going to replace the module. Dave W. said that may not fix the problem and if it doesn't it's not an easy fix.

A Board of Director's Meeting of the Cactus Corvair Club was called to order at 6:32 P.M. Via Zoom on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025 by Club President Dave W. Four Officers and Directors were in attendance.

- Reviewed Picnic plans: Caterer all set and Dave W. will set up his A-frame signs to help direct people to the site at the Group Picnic areas in Usery Park.
- Dues: We will be charging new members $10. Existing members will be free as long as they participate in at least one event or meeting during the year. Renewal notices will be sent out by David W.
- Roster will be distributed when completed.
- Zoom access has gone up to $174+ a year. Our other option would be to go to the free version which is a half hour limit. We voted to pay and keep the current format. Motion: Chris S., Second: Nancy P.
- The club spent a total of $200 on the Fan Belt Toss, $100 each on a gift basket and prizes for the Valve Cover Race. However, we are getting $350 back in rewards so we actually made money at the event.
- It appears that we are not having a Christmas Party this year, but we will be planning a cruise event in early January.

A meeting of the Cactus Corvair Club was called to order at 7:01 P.M. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 via Zoom by club president Dave W. Twelve people were in attendance.
Old Business:
• Minutes from last month's meeting were unanimously accepted: Motion: Chris, Second: Miner.
• Treasury Report: We have $9437.76. Paid $3 bank fee and accepted dues from one new member.
New Business:
• New Member: Scott T. Scott got into Corvairs about two years ago. Has about 15 Corvairs right now, and is currently working with Gary to get a '61 Rampside roadworthy. He has a YouTube channel ('Blink's Coolvair Addiction') and has many videos to help others on their Corvair journeys.
• New Member: John B. John is into Corvairs because of his wife whose family had them and she loves them. John became fascinated by the engineering and design of the Corvair and developed a deep appreciation. He has a Mercury Racing background and will be interested in making his two Corvairs as fast as possible (a 68 Monza and a '64 convertible).
• Meeting attendees were asked to come up with a list of events they would like to support this coming driving season. We will try to have one event a month.
• We will be having nominations and elections for Officers and Board of Directors for the 2026 season over the next two months. Anyone interested in a position should contact Dave W.
• The date has been reserved for our Fall Picnic: November 16. Plans will be formulated as the date approaches.
• We are looking for ideas for a Christmas or New Years' get-together.
• We will most likely be supporting the Phoenix Children's Hospital Fountain Hills car show again this year.
• We are still looking for a suitable new venue to host our annual Corvair Cruise-In.
• Dues for the upcoming 2026 season will be $10 and will start being collected in October.
• The Great Western Fan Belt Toss is in its 47th year! The event is October 24-26 in Palm Springs. All events will conveniently be right on the hotel grounds. Our club is helping out with the Valve Cover Races and Dave W. will be awarding prizes for oldest participant, youngest participant, best crash, best decorated, etc.
• We requested that the next newsletter contain the Valve Cover Race Rules, or at least a link to them where we can look them up.
• Chris S. also suggested a “Short Stories” section in the newsletter where club members contribute short and possibly even funny stories related to their cars.
Tech Talks:
• Dave W. is experimenting with powder coating. He bought a cheap spray gun from Harbor Freight but was disappointed in its performance and bought another on Amazon that is working out much better. He built an oven and is using Eastwood or Prismatic colors (also available on Amazon) and is getting good results.
• Dave W. is also testing another mechanical fuel pump. It claims to have a new fuel-compatible membrane and is testing well so far.
• John B. asked about fuel additives if a car hasn't been running for a long time. Dave W. said that additives are generally not good and it's best to drain the gas and start fresh in that case.
• Dave W. recommends Valvoline Restore and Protect oil and reports that it comes recommended by experts in the oil business as well.

• We discussed possible ways of getting more club members to attend the meetings and come to events.

• The date for our fall picnic has been booked: November 16. No details yet, but getting closer to the event we can discuss with the club and finalize plans.
• With the success of our Tech Day event earlier this year, Dave W. is thinking to add a West Valley location into the rotation. Al has volunteered to host one at his house. Date to be determined. He has a lift and a drive-through garage, so it's a great space to host one.
• Dave W. suddenly can't seem to upload videos to our YouTube channel. He previously was able to but now can't. Will talk to Braden to see what changed.
• Dave W. has not really been working on updating the roster, but has thought of a way to tie it in with membership and collecting dues for the upcoming year so this may materialize in the fall.
• Corsa asked Dave W. to be the Western Regional Director when David D's term is up (he has relocated and is no longer in the western region). He politely declined.

A meeting of the Cactus Corvair Club was called to order at 7:02 P.M. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 via Zoom by club president Dave W. Ten people were in attendance.
Old Business:
- Introduced Robert B. to the meeting as a member who recently joined the meeting
- Minutes from last month's meeting were unanimously accepted: Motion: Linda, Second: Chris.
- Treasury Report: We have $9430.76. Was $9413.76 but we accepted dues from two new members and paid a $3 bank fee.
New Business:
- Palm Springs lost the Fan Belt Toss convention venue. It will now be closer to the airport, in a much more convenient location. The new hotel is doing a great job of helping to organize everything. We are sponsoring the Valve Cover Races. The Dyno is on Friday.
- Hagerty Insurance reports that Corvairs, specifically late model Corvairs, have decreased 18% in value recently.
- There are going to be three Corvairs at the Mecum auction this fall going at No Reserve.
- A member asked about the Track Day at Phoenix Raceway again. Dave W. will look into that.
- The date has been reserved for our Fall Picnic: November 16. Plans will be formulated as the date approaches.
- Jim and Diane will not be hosting our Christmas Party this year so we need to find a new venue, and decide if we want it to be before Christmas or more of a New Year theme and do it in January.
Tech Talks:
- Dave W. is swapping rims on one of his vehicles. They are thicker and require longer studs. OE measures 1.25” long, he went with a Dorman1.75”. He showed us a puller which is readily available on Amazon for about $25 and a Wheel Stud Installer, which can be bought to size or universal.
- Dave W. is also pulling his axles out. He discovered some play in one knuckle, he may use J-B Weld to fill the gap. He showed us where the needle bearing rubs on the U-Joint and will eventually cause a clicking sound. They need to be replaced at that point.

- Last month's meeting minutes were approved with no discussion from members after a motion by John H. and a second by Miner F.
- Treasurer's Report: Beginning balance $9416.76, ending balance $9413.76. A $3 bank service fee was the only transaction for the month.
- Dave discussed the improvements expected at the Fan Belt Toss Car Show and Swap in Palm Springs this October.
- John and Kristin H. are welcoming visitors to their summer retreat location near Happy Jack.
- Tech topics discussed included Chris's fuel pump leak and a gas tank pressure issue cause by a fuel cap and Al's engine that smokes at odd times. Corvair guru Larry Claypool suspects a piston ring issue of some sort. We also reviewed many photos and details of two "barn-find" Greenbriers purchased by Dave and Cathy and also gave suggestions to guest Brad n how to properly set valve lash on a cold engine.

A meeting of the Cactus Corvair Club was called to order at 7:03 P.M. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 via Zoom by club president Dave W. Nine members were in attendance.
Old Business:
• No minutes were taken at the May meeting.
• Treasurer's report: Started with 9419.76. Paid a $3 service fee so ending balance was $9416.76.
New Business:
• Linda and Dave gave a report on the Convention in San Luis Obispo, California, May 20-23, 2025. The convention was very good considering the last-minute location change. The weather was cold and windy. All the events were fun, and Linda toured San Luis Obispo Museum with a guide for an hour and a half and found it fascinating. She also went to Morro Bay, saw the seals, and ate at a restaurant there. Back at the Convention, she helped clean up in the Hospitality Room, and went to the banquet. Dave and Cathy worked Registration and the Hospitality Room. They toured Hearst Castle and also went to Morro Bay. They worked the Road Rally too. They said there were people there from all over the country and the world—from Australia, France, and someone from Switzerland was reported to be in attendance but did not go to the banquet. There were 326 people total in attendance. Clark's Corvair Parts was represented and had parts at deep discounts.
• Side note, Linda has been to over 35 Conventions!
• Dave would like to move the Annual Corvair Cruise-In to the Martin Museum. It seems like the Pavilions cruise nights are fading as the new owners haven't been very welcoming toward the car enthusiasts.
• Nancy asked about reserving the same location at Usery Park for the Fall Picnic again this year. We will wait to see when the free entry day is for the Regional Parks and select that date. She will reserve the location as soon as we get this information.
Tech Talks:
• May 30, 2025 was Dave W.'s 25 year anniversary at work, and a co-worker made him a beautiful poster of his Greenbrier.
• Dave has also made some stickers which can be used for many purposes (including on coffee mugs) and is willing to give them away as an incentive for people to submit articles to the newsletter.
• Dave then delved into Tech Talks on several subjects: Starters and the issues they can have, a cracked Fuel Tank Float that will manifest as a Fuel Gage stuck on “Empty” (replace with new foam float to fix), and showed us how he is testing Clark's new Fuel Pump. Clark's is having the rubber made for them now to a specific formula. Dave claims the pump looks good so far; the diaphragm developed air bubbles, but does not seem to interfere with function and the bubbles are not getting worse.
• Dave also recommended Valvoline Restore and Protect. It's only $29/5 gal. and is getting great reviews.
• Stan had an issue with his car not starting, and the timing was changing. He decided it was either the Distributor or a gear on the crankshaft. Disassembled the Distributor and found a resistance weld had separated and the shaft was turning when it wasn't supposed to. Replaced the shaft and the car started right up.

A meeting of the Cactus Corvair Club was called to order at 7:04 P.M. on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025 via Zoom by club president Dave W. Twelve members and one guest were in attendance.
Old Business:
• Minutes of the March CCC Meeting were accepted. Motion: Jim W., Second: Miner.
• Treasurer's report: After expenses from the Cruise-In and additions from a few new members joining, our balance is $9,402.76. Dave W. expressed a desire to change from PNC Bank to something more accessible like Chase, and will be working on that this summer.
New Business:
• Ande Lange, long time CCC member and Corvair enthusiast, has passed away. Brian Jackson is putting together a Remembrance/Cruise-In event this Saturday, April 5th, in the west valley. Details can be found on the Facebook pages of Ande Lange or Brian Jackson.
• Upcoming shows/cruise-ins:
◦ Gilbert Cars and Coffee, Saturday April 5th.
◦ Mesa Cars and Coffee is on the 3rd Saturday of every month.

• Jim W. reported on the Martin Auto Museum show. It was the first show actually sponsored by the museum itself, and not organized by Nancy Perry. It was lightly attended but there were nice cars; a lot of Corvettes and Mustangs and some very old cars as well, back to the 1920s.
• Mike D. and Dave W. attended an event at the old Sunkist Factory on Broadway and Country Club. Our Corvairs were actually solicited as being a rare car; they were looking for turbocharged vehicles in particular. Dave said there were many very rare vehicles, and some European cars he had never heard of before. It's a kind of a private car club gathering and costs $150 a month to belong to it. They do shows like this and serve hors d'oeuvres and drinks.
Tech Talks:
• Dave W. has been helping a Corvair owner in Mesa. The car is a '65 and has not been running for about three years. The gas was bad, the fuel pump was bad, and a wiring harness had melted because of a dead short at the coil. Dave helped him install an electric fuel pump from Craig Nicol, but the car still won't stay running. He still thinks it's bad gas, will go back probably this week to work on it some more.
• Dave W. also put a 2” receiver hitch on his Greenbrier. He fabricated brackets and welded it; can install and remove it very quickly. If anyone is interested in doing this, let him know; he will help.
• Our guest, Alejandro, had questions about his dual exhaust from Clark's. He said it was very close to his tire and he didn't know if that would be okay. Dave W. thought it would, but had other suggestions as well.
• John H. is replacing his instrument panel lights with LED because the OE ones are very dim and the gauges are hard to see at night. He bought 3000 Kelvin LED gold/white lights, KEIUROT brand, off Amazon. Darin has done this himself and said it worked well.
• It was announced that Clark's new fuel pumps will be out this month. The diaphragms and membranes are now stronger; the old ones were not ethanol-friendly and would become inflexible. John showed us the part and how rigid it is. He also recommended use of an in-line fuel filter to avoid rust getting into the engine.

Upcoming Events:
- There is a show at the Martin Museum on March 22nd from 8 A.M. to 2 P.M. It has a $20 entry fee with free admission to the museum included. John Moss, known as “the Man Who Saved the Corvette” will be giving a talk. Arrive together in order to park together; let Dave W. know if you want to attend, as he is trying to coordinate a meetup to ensure arrival as a group.
- April 5th is the Chevy Showdown in Sahuarita at the Desert Diamond Casino. There is a $25 entry fee.
- The Concours in the Hills (Fountain Hills) is April 19. Registration has re-opened, if anyone is still interested in signing up. Entry fee is $75 but is fully deductible off your state income tax.
Tech Q and A:
- Larry C. complained of lack of power. It could be out of balance carbs or running too rich. Al may help; he lives in the area.
- Bob C. had his “Maiden Voyage” at the Corvair Gathering last Saturday and had some issues. He is still wondering how to fix his Emergency Brake. Dave W. told him to look for splits in the cable or broken plastic pulleys.
- Al took his compressor off but car is still spewing oil. Could be the seals, as new manufacturing materials and processes are sub-standard. The garage working on this is going to take another look at it. He may need neoprene seals.
- Pat says his carbs are acting up. Could possibly be a clogged idle circuit.
- Jim is having a sticking throttle problem. It might be gummed up and need a thorough cleaning. Dave W. advised him to disconnect the carb, swing the butterfly. If it doesn't snap back to its original position, it is gummed up.
- Nancy has a cosmetic issue with the metal crinkle paint on the dashboard being very dingy, and wondered if there was anything out there that would get it clean again. Dave W. suggested 409, a Magic Eraser, or a possibly a combination of both. If that doesn't work, it could be repainted.
- John has replaced his distributor wires with spiral copper wire and 90 degree angle boots. There is a crimping tool needed to do this, and John has it. He also has a lot of the wire and is willing to help anyone make this change on their own cars, or if you want to do it yourself, he will lend you the crimping tool.

An informal meeting of the Cactus Corvair Club was called to order at approximately 3 P.M. on Sunday, December 8th, 2024 by club president Dave W. at our annual club Christmas Party.
Agenda:
• We thanked Jim and Diane W. for hosting the wonderful party this year, with a delicious pasta buffet and desserts.
• There are no other actual events planned for the club in December, although members are encouraged to organize spontaneous events at any time. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 7 P.M. via Zoom (note the meeting change to first TUESDAY of the month going forward), and then on January 18th we will have a live “Tech Session” where the club will observe an installation of an electric fuel pump in Nancy P.'s car and carburetor installations and adjustments on Jim W.'s Rampside. This will be held at the home of Dave W. Pizza will be brought in, and maybe after the session we can take a ride to Handel’s Homemade for ice cream.
• Dave W. obtained our club archives back through 1976 from former club president David D. There may be some things of interest to Braden P. for the newsletter, and other items may be raffled off to club members at future events.
• In February, our meeting will be on Tuesday the 4th. at 7 P.M. via Zoom. The major event for February will be Concours in the Hills in Fountain Hills on the 15th. Entry fee is expensive, but remember, it is fully refundable on your state taxes as it is a charitable donation to the Phoenix Children's Hospital.
• Looking to March, we will have our meeting on the 4th at 7 P.M. via Zoom, unless we decide to have it at our annual Corvair Cruise-In at the Pavilions on March 1st. We will be set up at the first two rows by the McDonald's drive-thru. There will be tee shirts given out for registering.
• Anyone who has an idea for an event, cruise, or gathering is encouraged to take charge and organize the event. Garrett Z. spoke up that he personally knows Alan Travis who is the owner of the oldest Bugatti in the world, and has been featured on Jay Leno's Garage. Alan has a small car museum in Scottsdale and Garrett thought he could arrange a tour for our club.
• At the conclusion of our Christmas Party we did a gift exchange, and also got 3D-printed Christmas trees and a bag of Corvair Cookies to take home. A good time was had by all!

• Al F. and Tim W. have agreed to be on the Board of Directors.
• Monthly club meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of every month starting January 7, 2025.
• Everything we do from now on will be on the calendar on the website. We need to “train” members to check the calendar on a regular basis.
• The club's Facebook site gets a lot of scammers and people that don't really belong. We want to do something moving forward to ensure only local and genuinely interested people are allowed to participate.
◦ Action Item: Dave W. and Chris S. to monitor more closely and find a way to make it harder for non-Corvair people to join and spam/scam members.
• We are planning a “Tech Talk LIVE!” session tentatively scheduled for January 18, 2025 at Dave W.'s house to install an electric fuel pump on Nancy P.'s car and carburetors on Jim W.'s Rampside.

• On December 7th, the Martin Museum will offer free entry with a toy donation.

- The Concours in the Hills is Saturday, Feb. 15. The show runs from 10 A.M. To 3 P.M. but we will be meeting up beforehand and driving in together. Last meeting place is the Wendy's on Shea Blvd. as you enter Fountain Hills off 87. We will meet there at 7 a.m. and caravan to the show.
- The Arizona Corvair Cruise-In will be on March 1st from 2-6 P.M. at the Pavilions. We will have tee shirts and raffle items.
- March 14-16 is the Good Guys Show at Westworld of Scottsdale.
- Dave W. had an idea to make the March Zoom meeting into a Tech Q and A session, and the club agreed to it.
- Dave W. will talk to Garrett Z. at the Concours in the Hills show about setting up the events he suggested, a museum trip or a garage tour with his friend who is a friend of Jay Leno's and also collects cars.
Tech Topic
- Dave W. was contacted by a former member who has a car she has owned for 24 years and it no longer starts. She doesn't use it and is going to be selling it but came to Dave for some help and advice. Dave has offered to help get it to start, which he estimates will cost around $600. The main problem appears to be the fuel pump but there are a few other issues as well.

- We approved Meeting Minutes from our October meeting.
- We approved our Treasury Report from our October meeting.
- We discussed our upcoming picnic on Sunday, Nov. 17., from 10 A.M. To 2 P.M. At Usery Park, Ramada #D2. David W. is going to get a lot of leftover picnic supplies from David D. next week and then will call a meeting of those involved in facilitating the picnic to finalize our assignments. Information on the picnic can be found on the CCC website.
- The Christmas Party notification went out on Monday. It will be held at Jim and Diane's on Sunday, Dec. 8 from 1-4 P.M. We are reminded to get signed up if we plan to attend so they can plan food quantities. The flyer and sign-up instructions are on the CCC Website.
- Elections remain uncontested, so going forward the officers will be: Dave W., President; Chris S., Vice President; Jim W., Treasurer; Nancy P., Secretary. We will finalize our Board Members at the picnic. We have Bob C. and Al F. and officers will check to see if Tim W. will stay on for another year.
- Braden P. will put out a monthly newsletter starting the end of this month.
New Business:
- Looking for suggestions for driving destinations this season, or events that we can attend as a club.
- Dave W. is looking into the Corporate Transparency Act and how it applies to us. If it does, we must respond by the end of 2024.
- Starting in January, we will change our meeting nights from the first Wednesday of the month to the first Tuesday of the month. (December's meeting will be held at our Christmas Party.)
Tech Talk:
- Today's Tech Talk pertained to Powerglide Transmissions and the importance of selective washers in order to ensure you have proper end play. You need to have between .025"-.045" of clearance to be in spec, and Dave built a simple tool to be able to measure that clearance before final assembly.

• We reviewed our event at Gateway Classics in north Phoenix. It was well attended considering
the unseasonable heat, and we got to meet some new club members.
• Chris explained to the members who were not at the Gateway show that things will be changing
since outgoing club President David D. is moving out of state. Highlights of these changes are a
shorter (½ hour) meeting format, possibly changing the monthly meeting to the first Tuesday of the
month instead of Wednesday, and the resurrection of our newsletter, the Fanbelt Flyer, with
Braden P. acting as Editor.
New Business:
• On Saturday October 12 th we will be allowed to drive our cars on the NASCAR track if we sign up
very soon. If you are interested, please contact Dave W. as soon as possible. Cost to drive five
laps on the track is $30, but for $45 you can also get a photo of yourself in the Victory Circle. Sign
up for the 4 p.m. timeslot if possible, and members can all ride at once as a club.
• The Great Western Fanbelt Toss is October 25-27. You must register by October 19th
, so, again, if interested, contact Dave W.
• We have now scheduled our Fall Picnic for Sunday, November 17th, from 10 a.m. To 2 p.m. at
Usery Park in East Mesa, Ramada #D2. Food will start around 11:30 a.m. Entrance to the park
will be $7 per car. There are shaded picnic tables, horseshoe pits, a grill, a fire pit (if it's not a No-

• Today's Tech Talk was given by Dave W. and was about a simple and gentle de-rusting formula
that you can make with simple household ingredients. Take 1 gallon of Distilled Water, add 14 oz.
Citric Acid (available on Amazon), and 5-1/2 oz. Baking soda or washing soda. Can also add
some Dawn dish detergent for some degreasing properties as well. This formula is only mildly
acidic and is great for gently de-rusting parts without hurting the metal. Also helps in removing
paint.

acidic and is great for gently de-rusting parts without hurting the metal. Also helps in removing

An informal meeting of the Cactus Corvair Club was called to order at approximately 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 28th, 2024 at the Caffeine and Chrome Car Show held at Gateway Classic Cars in north Phoenix. It was co-facilitated by club Vice President Chris S. and Dave W.. About 12 members were in attendance.

An informal meeting of the Cactus Corvair Club was called to order at approximately 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 28th, 2024 at the Caffeine and Chrome Car Show held at Gateway Classic Cars in north Phoenix. It was co-facilitated by club Vice President Chris S. and Dave W.. About 12 members were in attendance.
- We discussed changes that will be taking place with the departure of current club President David D., who is moving out of state, and new visions for the club going forward.
- Chris reminded us that if we are interested in driving our cars on the NASCAR track at Phoenix Raceway we need to let him know soon. It will be Saturday October 12th and starts at 4 P.M. Cost is $30.
- The Great Western Fan Belt Toss is October 25-27, 2024 in Palm Springs, CA. You must register by October 19th.
- We will be getting back on track with our monthly Zoom Meetings starting October 2. Traditionally, our meetings have been held at 7 P.M. on the first Wednesday of every month, and we will continue this tradition for now. The link to the Zoom meeting is on the Cactus Corvair Club website.
- We discussed having a club picnic, possibly in November. Nancy P. will look into the availability of pavillions at Usery Park in east Mesa.
- Our club Christmas Party will be December 8th from 1-4 P.M. At Jim W.'s house again.
- It is thought that we should resurrect our monthly club newsletter, the Fanbelt Flyer. It can be short, maybe even just one page, but we would like to feature the story of a different member's Corvair every month. Braden P. will act as “editor” and producer.
- It is time to elect Officers and Board Members for the upcoming year. We will have nominations at the October 2nd Zoom meeting.
- We need to work on our roster list with names, phone numbers, emails, and possibly photos of each member willing to participate.
- We talked about assigning a sort of “New Member Liaison” so new members feel more welcome and connected as soon as they join.
