Annual Christmas Party Dec 8th
Weather was beautiful, food was tasty, and old friendships were renewed and new friendships were begun. Thanks to everyone who made it to the party. We had a few no-shows due to health reasons so attendance was down a little from last year. The pasta bar was a great idea and there were no shortages when it came to pasta, toppings or desserts. The decorate-your-own Corvair-shaped cookie designs were a nice touch too. Many thanks go out to Jim and Diana for doing all the prep work and setup. The club gave them a table-top cactus planter as a thank you. There were 7 Corvairs parked out front at the party drawing lots of attention from the neighbors. The models on display were pretty balanced with two earlies and three lates along with a Rampside and a Greenbrier.
Annual Picnic Usery Mountain Regional Park Nov 17th
After fears of cold temperatures, wind and possible rain during our annual club picnic, it turned out to be a beautiful, sunny day on Nov 17th. It was a little chilly in the morning but the sun was out to warm everyone up and if you didn’t get enough heat from the sun, the fire pit was close by and kept blazing thanks to Braden. The last few picnics the club held were on the west side so, based on a member’s suggestion, we changed the location this year to Usery Mountain Regional Park in northwest Mesa. As luck would have it, it was “Take a Hike Day” at all Maricopa County Parks so no one had to pay the $7 per car admission fee at the gate. We nearly had the whole place to ourselves as we were the only group using the 4 picnic areas. We had 7 total Corvairs on display and 20 people gathered for the pitch-in lunch. Thanks to Nancy and Braden for arranging to reserve the facilities and for bringing firewood. A big thanks also to Bob who ordered and delivered large trays of assorted party subs right on time for lunch. The food was nice and fresh and participants shared a great variety of side dishes and desserts with everyone. We met a few old friends during the day and made some new acquaintances too. It was great to see so many gathered in the parking lot around the cars, passing on knowledge and suggestions to each other keep our beloved Corvairs in great condition. We usually have an abundance of 1965-69 late model cars at our events but this time, the 1964 model year dominated the day with four ’64 vehicles on display including a 4-door, 2 convertibles and a Greenbrier van. Check out the beautiful cars and fantastic views in the photos and thanks again to everyone who helped set up, tear down and make this a fantastic day.
Great Western Fan Belt Toss and Swap Meet Oct 2024 Palm Springs, CA
Nine club members made the trip to Palm Springs this year for another hot Corvair weekend. Attendance and vendor spaces were down this year but the show car section seemed pretty full. Lots of cool cars and trucks were on display and the dyno was also busy. A special guest showed up which was the famous Corvair enthusiast and Youtube personality,Matt Wetzel. Matt drove his 63 Spyder survivor from Hurricane, Utah and even had it do a few pulls on the chassis dyno.
Track Laps for Charity at Phoenix Raceway Oct 12th 2024
Two late model Corvairs attended the Track Laps for Charity event at the Phoenix Raceway on a hot Saturday afternoon. Larry C. and his wife had a car full of passengers in their 65 4-dr and Dave and Cathy followed in their 66 coupe. No passing allowed so photos were mostly of Dave and Cathy following the 4-dr. We did 5 laps together and went faster than I expected they would allow and had a blast. -Dave W.

Arizona Corvair Cruise-In March 2nd 2024
We had 30 Corvairs on display at this year's annual event in Scottsdale and the weather was perfect! We had people arrive from Prescott, Tucson and Oracle as well as all the cities and town surrounding Phoenix. I didn't hear any hard luck stories so I think everyone made it there and back with no troubles. We raised $300 for the local Ronald McDonald Charities too! Thanks for attending!
